Report Raises New Concerns About Antidepressants-Suicide Link

(HealthDay News) -- Doctors and their patients need a more balanced picture of the risks and benefits of the popular antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a new report contends.

Current practices and research methods tend to exaggerate the benefits and underestimate the risks of suicide posed by the drugs, according to an "analysis and comment" published in the July 8 issue of the British Medical Journal.

"The reason that pharmaceutical companies have been able to claim [that] the science points the other way and [health authorities] have been slow to take action has been because of a misguided appreciation of statistical significance" of suicide, said report author Dr. David Healy, a professor of psychiatry in the North Wales Department of Psychological Medicine at Cardiff University in Bangor, Wales.

Healy, who described SSRIs as an "awfully useful group of drugs," called for reforms to the drug-approval process so health-care providers and consumers get a more complete assessment of a medication's potential benefits and risks.

"Although data submitted to the FDA show an excess of suicides with every antidepressant licensed since 1987 compared with placebo, this simple but crucial finding continues to be obscured," he said. "Companies actually manipulated the data and did it in such a way that [health authorities] were aware of it and didn't correct it."

SSRIs, the class of antidepressants that includes Prozac (fluoxetine) and Paxil (paroxetine), have been the subject of intense controversy in recent years.

In October 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration directed manufacturers of SSRIs to revise their labeling to include a "black box" warning that alerts health-care providers to an increased risk of suicide and suicidal thoughts in children and teens.

In July 2005, the FDA issued a public health advisory that raised the possibility that the risk of suicidality also applied to adults taking SSRIs, after several studies pointed to that possibility.

Meanwhile, the European Medicines Agency recently ruled that children as young as 8 years old can be given Prozac. The ruling added that Prozac should only be given to children with moderate to severe depression who haven't responded to several sessions of psychotherapy. It also said the drug should only be given in small doses and must be used in tandem with counseling.

British health authorities have also declared that all antidepressants except Prozac should not be used by children or teens.

And just last month, a major new study found that SSRIs have actually saved thousands of lives by preventing suicides since they were introduced in 1988.

According to the BMJ report, GlaxoSmithKline, which makes Paxil, recently sent a letter to doctors saying the drug caused a six-fold increase in the risk of suicidal behavior. This was in sharp contrast to a 2004 report by British health authorities, and to previous pronouncements from the company, Healy said.

Attempts by HealthDay to reach GlaxoSmithKline for comment were unsuccessful.
Healy himself performed a meta-analysis of published trials and found that the likely risk of suicide for patients taking SSRIs compared to a placebo was 2.6 -- more than twice the risk. But new trials should be conducted to settle the issue once and for all, he said.

Healy said his main concern now is how this heightened risk could have gone unnoticed and how similar missteps can be avoided in the future.

"These are an awfully useful group of drugs, and I use them," Healy said. "The solution for me and for the people who need them is to know what the risks really are. We need to have access to the raw data and regulators do as well."

Knowing the full picture could mean the difference between life and death, Healy said.
"If we are informed what the risks are, then we don't say, 'it couldn't be the drug,' and increase the dose, which is just the wrong thing to do," he said.

Around the Gulf, Workers Care for Sick and Deal With the Dead

(HealthDayNews) -- In the flood-ravaged Gulf Coast, health workers continued to use what meager resources they have to care for thousands of hurricane refugees huddled in shelters Sunday, as officials begin at last to deal with the dead.

And the nation's top health official admitted what most people have feared: The dead will number in the thousands.

Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt said he couldn't provide a precise number on the impact of the devastation, but he told CNN, "I think it's evident it's in the thousands."

Leavitt also announced Sunday that he and other top health officials were headed out to tour evacuee centers throughout the Gulf Coast region to assess and coordinate relief efforts.
"We want to make sure the full reach of the federal government's health and human services are being extended to every area where evacuees are being located," he said in a prepared statement.

In Houston's Astrodome -- now home to more than 11,000 refugees -- doctors triaged the worst cases, focusing on those at highest risk.

"You try and focus on the task at hand, you know," Dr. Evan Melrose, of Texas Medical Center, told the Associated Press as he weaved his way from one exhausted, disoriented patient to the next. "But when you see what's in their eyes, well, I've found myself pushing back tears."

Another Red Cross volunteer, Dr. Mary Cavnar Johnson, told the AP she treated 50 people within 4 hours Saturday at the Astrodome -- her normal patient load as a private practitioner is just 30 patients per 8-hour day.

In Biloxi, Miss., the kind of water-borne disease health officials have feared has begun to finally surface six days after Katrina hit, with officials closing a shelter there after more than 20 residents developed vomiting and diarrhea linked to what doctors believe may be dysentery.

Although residents had been warned to avoid drinking the water at the local school, some may still have done so, officials say. On the other hand, "Who knows what they swallowed before they got here, half of them were swimming in stuff that we don't even know what it was," Biloxi police Cpl. Kayla Robert told the AP. All of the sick are being treated with antibiotics, officials said.

Back in New Orleans, the city began the grim job of dealing with those who did not survive Katrina's wrath, with paramedics beginning to remove corpses from around the convention center.

Although the exact number of dead remains unknown, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said Saturday that she expected the death toll to climb into the thousands. Craig Vanderwagen, rear admiral of the U.S. Public Health Service, told the AP that a morgue set up at St. Gabriel prison was expecting to receive 1,000 to 2,000 bodies.

Three babies have died of heat exhaustion at New Orlean's crowded, sweltering convention center, Mark Kyle, a medical relief provider, told the AP. The situation there may have improved: FEMA spokesman Marty Bahamonde told the news agency the center is now "almost empty" after 4,200 people were removed on Saturday. At one point over 25,000 had huddled at the center.

Rescuers were also able to evacuate everyone from both Charity and University hospitals late Friday, the AP reported.

"The last information I have is that all of the buildings are empty," Don Smithburg, head of the Louisiana State University hospital system, told the wire service.

Roughly 2,200 people were evacuated, including 363 patients; three terminally ill patients died during the rescue effort. Smithburg told the AP he did not know how many died while waiting for help. With food and water running out, some hospital employees had given each other intravenous fluids to stay alive.

"Some of them are on the brink of being unable to cope any longer. We just can't get our people out fast enough," Smithburg said.

Doctors and nurses are still caring for refugees at a makeshift triage unit at New Orleans International Airport. Officials say thousands had already been treated, but that less than 200 remain.

"In the beginning it was like trying to lasso an octopus. When we got here it was overwhelming," Dr. Jake Jacoby told the wire service Saturday.

Elsewhere in the city, the Ochsner Clinic Foundation seemed almost an oasis of calm, despite having been without power for much of the past five days, and still without plumbing.
The facility was built on high ground, above sea level, Dr. Steven Deitelzweig, the chairman of hospital medicine, said.

Deitelzweig has not left the building since Sunday, he added in a late-night phone interview Friday.

His staff (about 40 percent of whom are on duty) are seeing the gamut of problems, he said. People with chronic ailments such as diabetes, heart failure and pulmonary disease who have run out of medicine have arrived in comas, or with their problems otherwise exacerbated.

The team is also treating a good many cuts, some from people who were in a hurry to rebuild their homes. The lack of drinking water in the city has resulted in dehydration and resulting renal insufficiency, as well as infectious diarrhea.

A lack of water also affects the pathology and dialysis machines, among others, which need water to function, Deitelzweig added.

But because the power came back on, there is air conditioning, so conditions are "comfortable," he said. However, doctors and other staff have been advised that the number of patients will likely rise dramatically in the next 10 days, he noted.

And Deitelzweig said he doesn't know when he will see the outside world again: National guardsman will not allow anyone out the front doors.

Despite the fact that hospitals throughout the city had at least been stabilized, and even with the arrival of military convoys carrying food and water to thousands of desperate people in the New Orleans Convention Center following President Bush's visit to the area Friday, lingering health problems remain.

One expert thinks that a variety of health dangers are a significant problem for refugees along the 90 miles of Gulf Coast that took the brunt of Monday's storm.

The first problem is access to clean, potable water, said Dr. Eric A. Weiss, an emergency medicine expert at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also noted that "people, particularly elderly people, have been displaced from their normal medical care. They need access to their medications and to physicians."

Weiss downplayed concerns about diseases from the vast number of corpses floating in the water. "The danger is highly overrated," he said. "There is not a significant danger of disease from floating bodies."

Another expert sees the raw sewage mixing in the floodwater as a potential threat to public health. This is particularly true for people who are exposed to the water, and who have open wounds or who can't wash their hands.

"While there are a lot of chemicals in the water, they probably don't rise to the level of an acute toxin," said John Pardue, director of the Louisiana Water Resources Research Institute at Louisiana State University. "Probably the biggest danger right now is the sewage."

Pardue plans to start sampling the water in New Orleans to determine its chemical and biological elements that could cause public health problems.

Fewer Americans Taking Chances With Food

TUESDAY, March 21 (HealthDay News) -- The foods Americans consume each day are safer now than ever before, researchers report.
That's according to a survey on foodborne illness, released Tuesday in Atlanta at the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases.
The percentage of Americans eating one or more risky foods with a known high risk for infectious illness -- pink hamburgers, pink ground beef, raw fresh fish, raw oysters, raw/unpasteurized milk, runny eggs, alfalfa sprouts -- decreased by a third between 1998 and 2002, from 31 percent to 21 percent, the researchers said.
Men aged 18 to 64 were more likely to report consuming risky foods than women in the same age group (38 percent vs. 30 percent), and Asians/Pacific Islanders were more likely than whites to consume risky foods (32 percent vs. 21 percent).
"Overall, we are seeing a decline in risky food consumption, and that may be attributable to published media reports of foodborne outbreaks and outreach efforts by the public health community," study author Erica Weis, of the California Department of Health Services, said in a prepared statement.
"However, in the future there needs to be more targeted outreach to those groups that continue to have high levels of risky food consumption," she said.

Food Safety Tips Make Picnics Perfect

SATURDAY, July 15 (HealthDay News) -- Ants aren't the only enemies of fun summer picnics -- foodborne illness can ruin the day, too.
But experts at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville have three simple rules for keeping al fresco dining worry-free: keep hot foods hot, keep cold foods cold, and make sure everything is clean.
"For safe food handling, temperature is key. Cold food should be stored under 35 or 40 degrees Fahrenheit and hot foot above 140 degrees. The range in-between is where bacteria grow," noted food-science professor Michael Johnson in a prepared statement.
He recommended the use of a meat thermometer when barbequing. Use the thermometer to check the center of burgers or the thickest part of chicken parts. Burgers should be cooked to an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees, while chicken should be cooked at 165 degrees.
Don't leave cooked burgers out on the picnic table, because they can quickly cool to the perfect growth range for bacteria. Instead, cook burgers as you need them, Johnson said.
Taking one or more extra coolers and freezing ice in chunks -- which last much longer than small cubes in bagged ice -- can help you keep picnic foods cold, advised Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg, an associate professor in dietetics at the university.
"I like to use a rectangular sheet cake pan to make ice. I put that chunk of ice in the bottom of the cooler, add ice cubes with the food, and top it all off with another chunk of ice. It lasts through the hottest weather," she said in a prepared statement.
Fitch-Hilgenberg also suggested using several coolers when you have a picnic. One cooler can carry extra bagged ice, and another cooler can hold beverages and snacks that can withstand the constant opening and closing of the lid. You can also have a separate cooler for raw meat and another for healthy snacks such as fresh fruit and vegetables and string cheese.
Hamburger patties should be prepared at home and frozen so that they remain below 40 degrees before they're put on the grill. If you do carry raw meat in the same cooler as other foods, make sure the meat is well sealed and placed on the bottom of the cooler, below the other foods.
People who are grilling meat or serving other foods at a picnic need to wash their hands frequently. If there is no water available, use disposable hand wipes. It's also essential to avoid cross-contamination from raw to cooked meat, the experts said.

Raw Foods and Ayurveda

Everyone's digestion is unique. Although ayurvedic healers generally recommend cooking foods to enhance ease of digestion, if you find that your digestion is strong enough to handle a diet that contains lots of raw foods, and you have no signs of ama, then incorporating raw foods into your diet is not a problem.
Here are some suggestions for eating raw foods under the umbrella of ayurvedic dietary guidelines:
1. Choose foods appropriate to your dosha and needs for balance. Those foods will give you the greatest benefit.
2. Within the food choices suited to your dosha, opt for foods that are easier on the digestion: cucumber, lettuce, baby carrots, daikon radish and tender greens, for example.
3. Chew foods well so that they mix with salivary secretions and the digestion process begins in the mouth.
4. Eat moderate portions to avoid overtaxing the digestion.
5. Chop or grate foods fine. Pureed raw soups and grated salads are easier on the digestion than big chunky vegetables.
6. Soak nuts and seeds before you eat them. Soaking enhances digestibility of nuts and seeds.
7. Use ripe, fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. Unripe fruit and over-mature produce both tax the digestion more than foods eaten at the peak of their maturity.
8. Go organic. Foods that are natural, with no pesticides or chemicals used in the growth process, are absorbed better and leave less toxins in the body.
9. Garnish raw salads with a "hot" dressing -- spices sautéed in melted ghee and drizzled over the salad enhance digestion.
10. Sip warm water or warm herb/spice teas through the day between meals to enhance digestion and cleanse the body of ama build-up.
11. Eat more of your raw food for the day at lunch, when the digestive fire is at its peak. Avoid eating raw foods after sundown.
12. Use-digestion enhancing herbs for flavor -- cilantro, mint, thyme, basil and fresh ginger root all aid digestion.
13. Drizzle cleansing lemon juice on your salads and raw soups.
14. Use smaller beans for sprouting: mung beans and lentil sprouts are easier on the digestion than sprouted garbanzos, for example.
15. Try and get all the tastes at each meal, even if it is a salad: carrots/beets for sweet, greens for bitter, cilantro for astringent, fresh ginger for pungent, lemon juice for sour and rock salt for salty.

Although they are small in size, this amazing fruit is one of the most powerful anti-aging

Although they are small in size, this amazing fruit is one of the most powerful anti-aging powerhouses you can find. Consider just some of the blueberries amazing qualities:

Brain food (it’s not just fish anymore). Blueberries have been added to the list. Up until very recently, the belief has been that the decline in brain function, in both cognitive and motor aspects, is inevitable and irreversible. Consider the impaired sense of balance that is one of the telltale signs of aging (the elderly are notorious for falling down for no apparent reason). A young person can usually stand on one leg, even with eyes closed, much longer than an older person, who begins to sway and quickly needs to put down the raised leg in order to prevent a fall. We maintain our posture by automatically correcting against swaying motion; when the conduction of neural signals slows down with aging, we easily lose our balance. It turns out that daily doses of blueberries are the only treatment known that can reverse the deterioration of motor function with aging!

The phytochemicals in the blueberry extract appear to speed up neural communication. Blueberry-supplemented neurons have a better ability to communicate with each other.
Phytochemicals contained in blueberries prevent cell death and the loss of nerve growth factors.
Blueberries allow the body a greater ability to release dopamine, an energizing, stimulatory neurotransmitter. Blueberries also protect us from the loss of dopamine cells that is normally seen with aging. By increasing brain energy production and maintaining youthful brain function, dopamine exerts an extremely important anti-aging effect. And, since dopamine decreases as we age, blueberries become even more important as we get older.

According to research findings at the Rutgers Blueberry Cranberry Research Center in Chatsworth, N.J., blueberries help promote urinary tract health. Explains Rutgers scientist Amy Howell, Ph.D, blueberries, like cranberries, contain compounds that prevent the bacteria responsible for urinary tract infections from attaching to the bladder wall. And, unlike cranberries, blueberries need no sweetening to to be palatable.

Wild Blueberries, like their European cousins, bilberries, have very high concentrations of anthocyanin, a natural compound linked with many health benefits including reducing eyestrain and improving night vision. Ronald L. Prior, Ph.D, director of the USDA studies that ranked blueberries number one in antioxidant activity, plans to study the ability of blueberries to prevent macular degeneration, a disease of the retina and the leading cause of blindness in people over age 65.

OTHER SUPER FOODS

BLUEBERRIES REVERSE CERTAIN AGING CHARACTERISTICS Forget Viagra. Forget red wine. Anyone seeking to really feel young again should try blueberries, research on rats suggests. Old rats fed the equivalent of a cup of blueberries a day not only were more coordinated, but were smarter than other old rats. Researchers are now working to find out just what it is in blueberries that repairs the damage ageing does to the brain. In the meantime, they are eating blueberries themselves.Researchers found that rats fed spinach and strawberries learned better than rats on a standard diet. Then they threw a blueberry extract into the diet. The rats who got the supplement not only learned faster than other rats, but their motor skills improved.
There were a lot of changes in neuronal communication ó the ability of one neuron to communicate with one another, but what struck the researchers was the ability to change motor behavior. There is virtually nothing out there that can change motor behavior in ageing. But the blueberries did.The rats were 19 months old, they are the equivalent of 60 to 65 years of age and the researchers feed them for two months so they're up to 70-75.

The blueberry fed rats did better on standard rat tests, like making them swim in a water maze, or find an underwater platform in murky water. But they also did better on tests involving a spinning rod or an inclined rod ó good tests of coordination. Young rats six months old could stay on a rod an average of 14 seconds. Old rats fell off after six seconds, but the blueberry-supplemented old rats could stay on for 10. The blueberries did not make the rats young again, but did improve their skills considerably. When the rats' brains were examined, the brain cells of the rats that got the blueberries communicated better.

The researchers are doing tests to see what compounds in the blueberries are responsible for the effects. Other scientists have found that the components that give fruits and vegetables their color ó such as the lycopene that makes tomatoes red ó are associated with health-giving effects. One of things they might be doing is to protect against oxidative stress.

Oxidation occurs all the time in the body and is cell damage created by charged particles known as free radicals. They also may reduce inflammation.Fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants, which range from the resveratrol found in red wine, the anthocyanins that make strawberries red and blueberries blue, and the vitamins A, C and E. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. The rats ate supplements made from blueberry juice, but the researchers think the whole fruit may confer even more benefits. You can't overdose on blueberries.

Mucopoly saccharidesvital complex sugars, which literally glue the body together, lubricate joints, and support immune function-are also plentiful in.

Buckwheat groats can also be sprouted, providing a crunchy addition to salads. Spelt contains more proteins are so good that it can meet all daily requirements (though it is not recommended to use any single food with such frequency).

Mucopoly saccharidesvital complex sugars, which literally glue the body together, lubricate joints, and support immune function-are also plentiful in spelt. It is also high in B-17, which is an anti- cancer vitamin.

Researcher found it induced a number of cancers in animals, you need something for taste, rather than fermented soy sauce, use Bragg Liquid Aminos or some equivalent. This products is not fermented; however, it doe have a considerable sodium content and this should be taken into consideration. You can also use Bragg with cold-pressed flax seed oil or olive oil for salad dressing and you'll be getting your essential aminos with your essential fats.

Everyone should store organic sprouting seeds and use sprouts in their daily diet.

Sprouts can be grown in your kitchen in any season, providing you with fresh organic produce when no other garden is available. Seeds for sprouting can be stored for long periods of time, and magically have the potential to produce many times their weight in fresh produce, full of vitamins, minerals, and proteins.

They are easy to grow-some in as little as two days. They can be eaten alone, raw, stir fried (occasionally), in salads, in sandwiches, as a snack, or sprinkled over soup. Everyone should store organic sprouting seeds and use sprouts in their daily diet.

Buckwheat and spelt are the best grains because they are not mucoid-forming and carry an alkaline residue. Buckwheat groats (strictly a seed but used like a grain) are high in protein and thus digest slowly, keeping blood sugar balanced. (Cook one cup buckwheat groats in two cups of water. Bring to a boil in a covered pan, turn off heat if using an electric burner, or turn to minimum; will be cooked in 20 minutes.

To eradicate Y/F, the rule of thumb for the first six to eight weeks

Barley grass improves stamina, sexual energy, and clarity of thought; and it reduces addiction to unhealthy foods. It also improves skin texture and heals dryness associated with aging. If you're very healthy, living in a pollution-free, stress-free environment, and have a 40% raw, 80/20 alkaline/acid, vegetarian diet of all organically grown food, then you don't need the enzymes-but then, what planet are you on.

To eradicate Y/F, the rule of thumb for the first six to eight weeks: vegetables for breakfast, vegetables for lunch, vegetables for dinner! This should include dark green and yellow vegetables and grasses. They are all anti-Y/F and anti-mycotoxic. Vegetable for breakfast are especially helpful. A partial list, in no particular order, is: broccoli, asparagus.

Eggplant, green and yellow squash, green beans and peas (fresh, red and yellow peppers (also green if they agree with you), spinach, mustard greens, collards, kale, lettuce, okra, parsley, scallions, radishes, swiss chard, watercress, sea vegetables such as nori wakame and niziki, wheat grass, barley grass, turnips, and sprouted grains or beans. Also, eat lots of garlic and onion, if they agree with you. While they are available in health food stores and even supermarkets, the best way to get them is to sprout your mum living energy.

Vitamins and Minerals

Research indicates that wheat grass contains more than a hundred food elements-including every identified mineral and trace mineral-with more iron per volume than spinach. It also contains every vitamin in the B-complex family, has one of the highest pro-vitamin A contents of any food, and is rich in vitamins C, E, and K.

Wheat grass juice averages 25% protein-a higher percentage than meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, or beans. In addition, researchers claim, young, green wheat grass has one hundred. Barley grass boasts four times the vitamin B-1 (thiamin) of whole wheat flour and thirty times more than milk. It has three times more vitamin C than spinach, and seven times more than oranges. Barley grass is one of the most incredible products of this decade.

The Dosage and Aplication is very important in the ozone procedure

The dosage is everything!!! Theophrastus Bombastus von Hoheim (better known, as Paracelsus)

First, our Integrated Medical School is located in the same city which goes trough the news-, in Chiang Mai, but we have nothing to do with Mr. Satori ( same as "Dr." Suchada, which goes trough our student newsletters with a lot of complaints - she is a Thai female and claimed she is "natural doctor" educated from Canada, she doesn't saw at all Canada ( after a newsmagazine research), in reality- she works for the Faculty of Agriculture (has no medical, more less Ayurveda background - at all) when she nobody wants to tell who she is - so she has deep sense of privacy - and we are distancing us from all her actions and her advertisements. We have nothing to do with her. She is only focused on financial benefits.

Our priority is always safety and education of the patients and students. Our main intention is to educate and to protect, not to hurt. I'm aware of it, there are in Asia, especially in the Ayurveda section, here in Chiang Mai, which claim and advertise knowledge in that way ( and have no education at all) this is quiet danger -as the fellow example shows. They tourists know about this kind of treatments from Europe or north America, okay I will try it, but in the end of the day after they get aware of it - this is the scam.

We are get many complaints in that way, because we are teaching this here in Asia, and there is not yet a quality management. But it seems only if some people get killed, we are listen the news and questions the treatments. What is about the colon infections, fractures during the massage, heavy metal and full of fungus poisoned supplements?

Is this really the treatments? Or is this the missing education? I this there is no watch dog here in Asia? I'm aware in Europe and north America, since 10 years - we are talking about quality management, how we can control it, how we can improve it? I guess in Thailand so far, we don't have it, I couldn't read about in English newspapers. or I miss it.

We are getting tons of emails and everybody asking the same questions, how safe is ozone treatment?

It is very safe, when you don't make this non-sense, what Mr. Sartori made. Everyone understand when you inject a pure gas (any gas!) in a human vessel this is very dangerous and life threatening, but this is not what us the German studies proved - in the procedures guide. So don't associate so much Mr. Sartori with legal ozone applications, like here:

Wednesday July 12, 03:42 PM
Mixed views on radical oxygen treatment
Many terminally-ill patients have turned to radical alternative oxygen treatment in a last ditch attempt to prolong, or even save, their lives.
Ozone therapy is a German healing practice praised by dozens of natural health advocates worldwide for more than five decades.

But the controversial treatment has met with harsh criticism from medical specialists who claim there is no evidence it is effective.
Ozone is in the spotlight after police in Thailand charged Austrian national Hellfried Sartori with fraud and practicing medicine without a license in the northern city of Chiang Mai.
They allege he injected foreigners with dangerous chemicals, and that he has already been convicted and jailed in the United States for illegally administering his so-called "ozone treatments".

But Sartori insists the injections are not linked to the deaths of some of his patients, many of whom hoped it might save them from cancer.
One Australian cancer patient, Kathleen Preston, sought a cure from the so-called Dr Ozone but died in hospital last July following the treatment.
Websites supporting ozone therapy claim oxygen can be used to treat and often cure hundreds of conditions, including cancer and HIV/AIDS.
The practice is legal in 16 countries excluding Australia. Several states in the US have passed legislation to ensure that such alternative therapies are available to consumers.
It is most commonly administered through intravenous injection, in water or as a low-pressure gas fed through the ear or rectum.
Oxygenation therapists believe that disease is caused by the absence of oxygen and loss of cellular ability to use oxygen for "good energy" metabolism, detoxification, and immune system function.
The therapy therefore restores the body's ability to produce "good" energy, "detoxify" metabolic poisons, and to kill invading organisms, they claim.
Several organizations and companies worldwide have dedicated themselves to promoting the practice, which a 1980 German study found to be safe and effective with few side effects.
But the medical community says there is no evidence the therapy works.
At the heart of the criticism is that ingestion, infusion, or injection of oxygen or hydrogen peroxide cannot re-oxygenate the tissues of the body as claimed.
Yahoo news

The are many things are unknown here in Asia, and the USA as well (maybe in Australia too). I met only few doctors they understand what ozone / oxygen does, but for sure there is a relationship, between cancer, blood and a lack of oxygen, but for sure the solution is not - to put liquid or as a gas pure ozone in any vessel in the human body. This is non-sense - and I'm not sure Mr. Satori - didn't know this. If you read more in detail the news, I'm not sure they patients really died from the ozone applications (or the high dosage of potassium? Why this?).

There is really not so much details in the news. But who come in the bad news is ozone/ oxygen treatments, and they have nothing to do with news.

What is happen here, Mr. Satori, hungry for money, claims some non-sense procedure, the people understand, he promise - he can treat cancer in a short time, that’s why he asking for his short time effort for US$ 50.000 (in 1! week). I don't understand anyone who can pay this for 1 week, but I guess the are in a last hope - and he abuse a treatment, which are helped many people - not in one week, not in his way - but in a safe way - which can improve so many things: the blood, the live quality, and on and on. In this case, we are recommend again, please educate your self, before you make any treatment. Please consult at least 3 doctors to get your own opinion, and don't believe and pay a fake illusion and promise.

Cancer 'doctor': six new deaths

A VICTORIAN cancer sufferer was one of six people who died in Australia last year after receiving what police suspect was a bogus intravenous cancer treatment promoted by Hellfried Sartori, a discredited Austrian doctor who was arrested in Thailand this week.

Police say four of the Australian cancer sufferers who died in May and June last year had attended a Mosman Park clinic in Perth for cesium chloride treatments.

Two other cancer sufferers are reported to have had the same treatment in Australia, but it is not known in which state.

The dead included a US citizen visiting Australia for the treatment, two Perth residents, the Victorian, and one each from NSW and South Australia.

Thai police arrested Sartori, 67, in Chiang Mai on Sunday and have charged him with fraud and practising without a medical licence. They claim several people who received treatment from Sartori — for which they were charged $50,000 — later died in Chiang Mai hospitals.

Northern Territory police are investigating the death of Kathleen Preston who died two years ago in Chiang Mai soon after receiving cesium chloride injections from Sartori.

Her husband, Keith, said yesterday that there was nothing wrong with his wife undergoing a "natural" treatment that may have led to her death. He and Kathleen, 58, went overseas after Australian doctors said they could do nothing about her ovarian cancer, he said. "They tell you to go home and die. They weren't doing anything," Mr Preston said.

Speaking from a cell at a police station in Chiang Mai, Sartori yesterday told AAP that he had not committed any crime. "All I did was to try to help people after they approached me," he said. "And I gave free advice to many people, including some in Australia, to try to assist them back to a healthy life."

"That poor woman (Kathleen Preston) bled to death because of the incompetence of the staff at that hospital," Sartori said.

He insisted he was still a registered physician in some parts of the world, though not in Thailand where he said he acted only as a "technician" while nurses injected patients with chemicals that police have said were dangerous.

Three weeks ago the General Medical Council, which regulates doctors in Britain, issued interim orders banning Sartori until December 2007.

In the United States, Sartori's medical licence has been suspended by more than a dozen states. He was jailed in New York in 1992 and Washington DC in 1998 over his promotion of cesium chloride injections as a cancer therapy.

Sergeant Terry Rakich of Perth's major crime squad said yesterday that Sartori was refused entry to Australia last year. He said police had been waiting more than a year to receive the results of pathology and toxicology tests that might confirm why six Australian cancer patients died in Australia in May and June 2005. They hoped to present a brief to the coroner in the next few months.

The head doctor at the Perth clinic, breast cancer specialist Alexandra Boyd, yesterday issued a statement denying administering any cancer treatment to Sartori's patients. "The only association Dr Boyd had with these Perth-based patients was strictly limited to the ordering and reviewing of blood tests for some of these patients," Dr Boyd said in a statement.

"At that time, Dr Boyd was not aware that Mr Sartori was not a medical practitioner, if this is in fact the case. Certainly, Dr Boyd has no knowledge whatsoever of any convictions or charges, past or present, against Mr Sartori."

MEDICAL MONSTER - Dr Ozone arrested over lethal cancer treatment

Dr Ozone arrested over lethal cancer treatment Quack who served two jail terms in US lured Western cancer patients to Chiang Mai for bogus cures, police say Chiang Mai police have arrested an Austrian national who allegedly killed at least one desperate Australian patient with a bogus cancer treatment he had advertised on a website.

Hellfried Sartori, 67, was arrested on Sunday in a Chiang Mai hotel and charged with fraud as well as practising medicine without a licence, police said.
Sartori will likely be extradited to Australia soon to face a murder charge, they said.

Sartori may be responsible for the deaths of several Australian cancer patients, who flew to Chiang Mai to receive the treatment in hotel rooms and later died at city hospitals, Lt-General Phanuphong Singhara na Ayutthaya told a press conference yesterday.

Sartori has served two prison terms in the United States - in New York state in May 1992 and in Washington DC in July 1998 - after administering his so-called "ozone treatments", Phanuphong said.

Websites claim the treatment cures everything from Aids and cancer to allergies and hardening of the arteries. It consists of injections of "liquid ozone", usually into a vein.

Australian police contacted their Thai counterparts over an investigation into the death of Kathleen Preston, an Australian cancer patient. Preston died at Maharaj Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital on July 26 last year. An autopsy report found an excessive amount of potassium in her blood.

Police suspect Sartori injected Preston before she died.
Sartori has been seen with other Western cancer patients in Chiang Mai, police say.
He accompanied Melissa Judith Taylor, a New Zealander with lung cancer, to the intensive-care unit of Chiang Mai-Ram Hospital on June 22. She fell unconscious after he injected a liquid into her chest and neck.

Taylor's relatives later told police that they flew with her from New Zealand to Chiang Mai after reading an online advertisement in which Sartori was portrayed as a qualified practitioner of the "liquid ozone" treatment.

Sartori charged Taylor Bt900,000 for his "alternative medicine".
Taylor's relatives, who witnessed the treatment, said Sartori used a syringe to withdraw liquid from a small metal cylinder, then injected three doses into Taylor, in veins in her chest and neck. She passed out after the injections and had to be rushed to hospital, Taylor's relatives said.
Phanuphong said a gas cylinder and a number of VCDs showing Sartori giving the treatment to a Western man were found in his hotel room.
Phanuphong said his officers were working with foreign police representatives based in Thailand to locate other victims of Sartori.

Dr Phattharawin Attasara, a senior physician with the National Cancer Institute of Thailand, dismissed Sartori's cure as preposterous.

Injecting a large amount of a foreign or inorganic substance into a vein would only cause the patient to faint or possibly die, the doctor said.

Citing information provided by Interpol, police said Sartori graduated from Graz University in Vienna and was a member of Austria's medical council until October 1, 1974.
He is in police custody.

Careless Ozone Treatments are so dangerous, who protect the patients? Educate yourself!

In the past I had a couple of times experiences to hear about the treatments of Mr. Sartori. How rough he takes care his patients and how dangerous are his treatments seems for us, when he inject ozone gas direct in the venous and artery blood circulation system. I couldn't understand this, that so a careless treatment has not have any side effects for the patients, because I didn't hear anymore from this patients. Today, I know why.

I could read this in the Chiang Mail News (Vol. V No. 29 - Saturday July 15, - July 21, 2006 ).

I'm so surprised how much mony he charged for this careless non-sense. As our Integrated Medical and Ayurveda School, we are teaching always, not to use any treatments until we are aware of studies, which are proven which are benefits certain kinds of treatments. Ozone treatments has many benefits, which are proven and you can read that online in our website, but not in this dangerouse manner how Mr. Satori used it.

Again, we are always promoting, before you are make any treatment. Educate yourself!!! Here is the story. Why?

Deregistered Austrian doctor arrested for illegal practice, causing deaths of cancer patients

Saksit Meesubkwang

Australian Federal Police in cooperation with Provincial Police Bureau Region 5 arrested a deregistered Austrian doctor who claimed to be able to cure cancer, but many of his “patients” had died.

Hellfried Sartori, the disgraced Austrian doctor (photo above).
Pol. Lt. Gen. Panupong Singhara Na Ayuthaya, Commissioner of Provincial Police Bureau Region 5 said that, on November 16, 2005, Australian Federal Police had come to Chiang Mai and asked the local police to assist in investigating the cause of death of numerous Australian people in the Northern Territory and Western Territory of Australia.

They had all been treated by an Austrian man named Hellfried Sartori, 67, who purported to be a doctor and had fled to Chiang Mai and offered treatment via his website.

Then, on February 20th, 2006, the Australian Federation Police were informed that Katherine Preston, an Australian woman who had been treated by him, died at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital and it was suspected that the cause of death was from his treatment.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Panupong also said that after coordinating with the Australian Federal Police, he issued orders to the special investigation department to trace his whereabouts. The officers were aware that he claimed to be a doctor concerned with treating cancer and were informed of a patient, identified as Melissa Judith Taylor, 33, a New Zealander who was unconscious and undergoing emergency treatment in Chiang Mai Ram Hospital.

When she recovered, she informed the police that she was acquainted with the ‘doctor’ via the Internet; where he claimed that he could cure cancer.

So she flew to Thailand to receive treatment in Chiang Mai. She stated that she had agreed to make an initial payment of 900,000 baht.

He treated her in a room in a Chiang Mai hotel that he had converted into an operating theatre. He injected a substance he called “Ozone” into her body and soon after she went into shock and was sent to Central Chiang Mai Hospital.

A video recording shows Sartori injecting Ozone into a patient’s body at his illegal clinic.
Learning of this, police applied for an arrest warrant from Chiang Mai Court and apprehended the man. He was charged with fraud and working as a medical practitioner without a license.

The ‘doctor’ had several prior offences to his name and was also charged that on June 5, 2006, he fraudulently offered treatment to an American, for which he was paid 612,000 baht.

Previously, he had been arrested in New York City, in the US on May 18th, 1995 on a charge of posing as a doctor.

Also, on July 17, 1998, he was arrested in Washington, US on a similar charge. He claimed to have a cure for cancer and injected his patients with “Ozone gas”.

Investigations by Chiangmai Mail reporters revealed that the former physician, Hellfried Sartori, received his primary degree in medicine from the University of Graz Medical School in Austria, and went to America where he became involved in ‘alternative’ treatments for many conditions.

One of these was Cesium therapy and he began this program in 1981 at Life Sciences Universal Medical Clinic.

He was also involved with the so-called ‘chelation therapy’ which uses a series of intravenous infusions containing EDTA and various other substances, which is falsely claimed to be effective against cardiovascular disease, autism, and many other diseases and conditions. The use of chelation for such purposes is considered substandard medical practice.

Hellfried Sartori was subsequently struck off the medical register in the US in 1985 and convicted of practicing medicine without a license after injecting ozone into patients intravenously and performing chelation therapy via injection of EDTA to treat various diseases.

It would appear that he continued with this line of treatment, recruiting his “patients” via the Internet.

Living Alone Significantly Raises Heart Disease Risk

Spending on intensive care, which today comprises 30-40 percent of hospital costs, may go even higher as the population ages, according to a new Mayo Clinic study. Published in the July issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, the study found that older people and those with chronic illnesses have the highest rates of end-of-life intensive care unit (ICU) use. Given that the country's aging population has an increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, the ICU may be treating more and more people at the end of life, the study's authors say.

Edward Seferian, M.D., a Mayo Clinic researcher, pediatric critical care physician and first author of the study, says the findings demonstrate the importance for patients to discuss their end-of-life treatment preferences with their physicians. Health care policy makers should also take note in considering how to fund end-of-life care, Dr. Seferian says. ICU care has been estimated at 1 percent of the U.S. gross domestic product and consumes 30 to 40 percent of hospital costs. While many factors affect intensive care use at the end of life, expanding alternative health care settings, such as nursing homes or hospice care, might be a more cost-effective use of federal health care funding, Dr. Seferian says. Often patients prefer to spend their final days in a nonhospital setting. The population-based study was set in Olmsted County, Minn., home of Mayo Clinic Rochester, and included 818 residents who had an ICU admission in 1998. Of those, one in five residents died having received ICU care in the last six months of life. Overall, those patients in their last year of life accounted for more than one-fourth of the ICU days used by Olmsted County, Minn., residents during the year. End-of-life ICU use for patients in other regions may be even greater, Dr. Seferian says, as evidenced by higher Medicare spending for inpatient care in other areas of the country.

This study may increase policy makers' concerns, and those of the medical community, about increased demand on health resources by the country's aging population. The proportion of ICU use by residents in their last year of life increased with advancing age. That's no surprise, but Dr. Seferian calls the degree to which this occurred "striking." People age 85 and older in their last year of life used 70 percent of ICU days among that age group, the study found. Among Mayo study patients who died in the ICU, the most common chronic illnesses were congestive heart failure, cancer and renal disease. Chronic heart disease patients had the highest end-of-life ICU admission rate.

4. Oil protein food after Budwig

The highly insatiated fatty acids occurring in the seed oils should be carriers of the “photons of the solar power”. Fatty acids control allegedly all areas of life and can during wrong composition with “electron robbers” from the environment uncontrolled growth release. By correct fat composition allegedly preventing or welfare-end “the illnesses at oxygen emergency and material loss” or the illness at cancer can to be affected.

Budwigs oil protein food consisting of Linomel, flax seed nut granulates, which is converted with quark to a Müsli, additionally are recommended Sauerkraut juice and fresh pressed vegetable and fruit juices. Proofs for the effectiveness against cancer are missing.

3. Fasting cures

The welfare-chamfered; however of most its representative is for a long time well-known with cancer as unsuitable or even dangerously is designated. Completely in contrast to it Rudolf Breuss, welfare practical man from Austria believes, “that cancer only from firm meals lives, which humans take to itself. If one drinks thus 42 days only vegetable juice and dte, then the cancer tumefaction dies, humans however can thereby still well live”. This theory is unreasonably and wrongly, like also many different of its statements. A proof that with its juice mixture, consisting of red and yellow carrots, celery, radish and potatoes, effectively the growth of cancer can be affected is pending. On the other hand it is well-known that this hunger cure leads to substantial lack nutrition and thus additional attenuation of the body-own defense.

Even if can succeed with model tumors in the bioassay occasionally to bring cancer by hunger to recovery the application of such “theories” is impossible and dangerous with humans. A “cancer cure totally” after Breuss is to be advised against urgently.

2. Examples of other cancer parliamentary allowance

Usually variants of the regular value food partially however with unfounded prohibitions e.g. are.

Anthropomorphically Diet (Renzenbrink):
Regular value food after Schnitzer
With food conversion to “civilized human food” Schnitzer states to be able to prevent cancer. Main part is grain, before the preparation becomes that direct grinded (with Schnitzer mills!)

Moerman Diet
The Dutch country doctor justifies his Diet by a comparison with the letter pigeon, which takes “the same food on the whole to itself as humans”, but never cancer gets. The eight allegedly indispensable materials protecting from cancer are: Iodine, citric acid, yeast, wheat, sulfur, vitamins A, E, C. beside it concerns it a usual regular value food. The effectiveness of this diet is not proven.

Vital material realms Diet after Kousmine
Constructing on a liver protection diet the discovered by recommends a meat-free, grain and raw food-rich Diet, supported by allegedly growth-retarding substances. This Diet heals allegedly also Polyarthritis and multiple Scleroses. It is unproven.

Macro bio tables food (Kushi Ohsawa)
This covers several stages and is predominantly based on grains. In its higher stages it is poor in proteins, iron and calcium, vitamins and trace elements and leads with longer application to its own lack nutrition and can become so dangerous. The effectiveness against cancer is not proven.

Diet after Leupold/Ohler
Leupold believes the cause of the generation of cancer in the wrong relationship Cholesterol / blood sugar: To recognize Lipoidphosphor. It tried to change this relationship by Diet in favorable way: on the one hand by an extremely char-hydrate-poor food, on the other hand by sugar infusions combines with old insulin as well as different other substances. Its Dietempfehlungen go very far, by forbidding e.g. all fruit except lemons. The inefficacy of this working method is proven.

Diet after Gerson
After decontamination by several coffee enema daily including castor-oil Gerson postulates high-dose supply of potassium, liver excerpt, thyroid preparations, iodine, Vitamin B12, Acidol Pepsin, and warns of the benefit of sugar, protein and salt. Interestingly enough this Diet was originally used against Tuberculosis! Its 50 allegedly cases of cancer healed by this Diet cannot be accepted due to unsatisfactory documentation as proof.

Isopathic - lactic acid Diet after Kuhl
Kuhl wants to poison the cancer cell by increased supply of clockwise rotating lactic acid to a certain extent. Proofs for the correctness of this theory and/or the effectiveness of his Diet are not present.

Hay' separation food
Quintessential point is the separation from protein and coal hydrates, which nourish-scientifically not only unnecessarily, but is wrong. An effectiveness against cancer is not occupied.

Instinct therapy after Burger
Extreme form of a raw diet, in which all food, also meat and fish, invariably, eaten i.e. roughly, uncooked become, that allegedly “natural nourishing instinct” following. Theory and effect of this Diet against cancer are unproven.

Avoidance of common salt.

Pioneers of this regular value food are Kollath, Zabel, Kretz, Bircher Benner and others. It is publicized today particularly by Anemueller and Ries, Kretschmer Dehnhardt, Mark line and Schultz Friese.

Underlying theory is the universal fermentation of the cancer cells postulated by being castle. Cancer cells result allegedly from irreversible damage of the respiration, which tries to compensate the cancer cell by fermentation energy, which is to lead again to undifferentiated, unordered cell growth. Actually these phenomena are not meanwhile consequence and not a cause of a malignant degeneration and represent long the only and crucial cancer cause. Being castle and later many its successor believed already decades ago, with a so-called metabolic active regular value food the oxygen supply of the cells improve and thus the cancer to restrain to be able. These theories were never proven and due to modern biochemistry as outdated to regard.

Most representatives of the regular value food stressed however also hardly ever to be able to heal with this food form alone cancer. Rather they recommend their food as auxiliary therapy, for the improvement of the defense strength of the ill organism. In addition, this effect was so far not proven.

Regular value food, as it is recommended by the mentioned authors, is not innocuous only, but a very healthy, everyone nourishing form which can be recommended. Particularly valuable the increased supply of natural Vitamins and different vegetable Anti-cancero- genes are more possible. Unfounded prohibitions (e.g. Tomatoes, potatoes, honey, coffee etc.) are to be rejected however like all extreme food forms.

1. So-called cancer-hostile metabolic active regular value food

This concerns a predominantly lacto - vegetable diet, which corresponds to a general alkaline diet and/or a qualitative diabetes diet.

Their principles are:
  • Avoidance of over eating, predominance. Allocation on several small meals
  • Supply high-quality, not denatured carbohydrates with much ballast materials (raw food), renouncement of refined sugar and full grinded grain in favor of natural sweeter and full grain products.
  • Reduced supply of proteins, predominantly vegetable origin, with far going renouncement of meat
  • Avoidance animal and other unnatural, satisfied fats, replacement by cold pressed oils (extra virgin olive oil) and fats with as several times as possible unsaturated fatty acids.

Cancer diet

A clear definition of a cancer diet does not exist.
Therefore become in the classification points 1. - 5.

Different nourishing concepts, which emerge in connection with cancer, describes. There are connections between nutrition and cancer illnesses, e.g. with the intestine cancer. With the cancer of the breast this is comprehensively not occupied. But so far still no nourishing concept is well-known, with which cancer would let itself be prevented. A cancer diet does not give it. However it is secured that a balanced nutrition with fresh vegetable products, which is rich at vitamins and ballast materials not only positively the life feeling it affects.

Foods and Thirst

Those who adopt a vegetarian diet soon find that they are not as thirsty and do not require nearly as large an amount of fluids as they did under the meat diet. The following explains why this is so.
The juicy fruits and vegetables contain on an average about ninety percent of water. These fruit and vegetable juices, prepared in Nature's own laboratory, supply in the best possible form the demand for fluids in the animal and human body. They are cooling, refreshing, and saturated with the most valuable medicinal elements found in nature.
These vegetarian foods, therefore, are non-heating and non-irritating, and contain in themselves large amounts of pure and wholesome fluids. Flesh foods, as we have learned, are saturated with uric acid, poisonous alkaloids and ptomaines, which have a stimulating, heating and irritating effect upon the system. This is further increased by the spices and condiments necessary to cover the unpleasant odor and taste of the flesh. Largo amounts of fluids are required to counteract the heating and corroding effects of these Systemic poisons, and to "wash" them out of the system. Herein lies the reason why a meat diet creates abnormal thirst and is most conducive to the forming of the drink habit, while the adoption of a fruit and vegetable diet in the beat remedy for the abnormal craving for drugs, tobacco, and spirituous liquors.

More:

Raw Sugars

Always the natural sugars should be used. Honey is the very best of all and should be given preference when available. Maple and pure cane syrup come next in order; then the brown, unrefined cane or beet sugar. The highly refined, inorganic sugars - granulated, pulverized and loaf should not be used.

More:

Uncooked Cereals

Seeds are highly charged with the sex principle, which in physical matter is the highest expression of life force. All seeds, such as cereals, nuts and legumes, which can be used as foods are, therefore, especially rich in the life elements - in vital magnetism or vitamins - and these vital energies remain unimpaired and most effective in the uncooked foods.

While the digestive apparatus, in the case of most people, through the constant use of cooked and highly spiced foods, has lost its ability to thoroughly digest and assimilate the raw starches of cereals, it is good practice to partake of some raw cereal at one or more meals every day. They should be freshly ground or cracked in the hand mill, or soaked, dried and flaked in a grain and nut flaker.

Flaked and rolled grains can be bought in every well-equipped grocery store, but these seldom consist of the whole grains, usually having been robbed of the mineral elements. The surest way is to buy the grains and prepare them at home. A mixture of rolled oats, wheat and rye in about equal proportions, with additions of pine nuts and raisins, makes an excellent and palatable substitute for baked bread. The flaked grains may be mixed according to individual taste and fancy, with various kinds of nuts, raisins, figs, dates or other uncooked fruits and berries. A great variety of palatable and tempting uncooked strength food dishes can be prepared in this way.

More:

Vegetables

The leafy, juicy vegetables which grow in and near the ground rank lower in proteins and starches and still higher in the positive mineral salts, than the fruits and berries. They are, therefore, best suited to balance in the diet the acid producing starches, sugars, fats and proteins. The mineral salts, contained in the juicy vegetables in larger amounts than in any other class of foods, are the real blood, bone and nerve builders, the most valuable antiseptics, blood purifiers and generators of the positive, electromagnetic energies in the body.
None of the vegetables belonging to group five, which are relished raw, are improved by cooking. The cooking more or less destroys the vitamins and dissipates to some extent the vital energies latent in the vegetable protoplasm.

Nuts

Nuts are by far the richest foods in nature. They contain only about five percent of water - all the rest of their substance is solid nourishment. On an average, they contain from ten to twenty percent of proteins, fifty to sixty five percent of fats, five to ten percent of carbohydrates, and from ten to twenty parts per thousand of the positive mineral elements.
The most costly beefsteak contains only from twenty to thirty percent of nourishing substance, and seventy percent of impure water.
Nuts, on the other hand, are three times richer than meat in fats and proteins, and their delicious flavors an enjoyed best when eaten raw. They are, therefore, the finest substitutes for meat in the diet of the vegetarian and fruitarian. The only danger lies in eating too many of them. They should be taken in moderate quantities only, and always in combination with foods of the mineral group.

No wonder many people say "nuts do not agree with me," when they eat them by the handful after a heavy meal of meat, potatoes and vegetables. The vegetarian uses nuts, not with meat, but in place of meat.
Many nut recipes will be found among salads, croquettes, roasts, and sandwich fillings.

Berries

Berries are still richer in the positive, alkaline mineral elements than the acid and subacid fruits. Therefore, they possess great medicinal values. The country people in Germany gather in their seasons, the different kinds of berries, and preserve and dry them for use in the winter.

Huckleberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries, elderberries, currants and cranberries, besides being delicious raw foods, make excellent soups, drinks and desserts, and are to be classed among Nature's finest remedies. They run from forty to one hundred parts per thousand in the positive, alkaline mineral elements.
The widespread belief that the seeds of berries and fruits are responsible for many cases of appendicitis is another fairy tale. The best way to prevent appendicitis is to live largely on seed-containing fruits and berries, and on other kinds of raw food. The small seeds which are swallowed act as scourers of the intestinal tract. They stimulate the peristaltic movements of the bowels and are natural laxatives. Appendicitis, in ninety percent of all cases, is caused by a sluggish, atrophic condition of the intestines.
Huckleberries, blueberries and blackberries are excellent medicines, not only for diarrhea but for all other ailments of the digestive tract. In severe diarrhea, dysentery, bloody flux and cholera morbus, no food whatsoever should be taken - only water mixed with acid fruit or berry juices. Blackberries and raspberries make delicious drinks and are fine tonics for weak stomachs.

Sweet Fruits

The sweet, alkaline fruits, such as figs, dates, grapes, persimmons, melons, cantaloups, and certain varieties of peaches, pears, and the like, are very rich in highly refined, organic sugars, all ready for assimilation, and contain considerable amounts of the positive, organic mineral salts. They are, therefore, nourishing, purifying and stimulating.

Dates rank highest in sugar, but are comparatively poor in organic salts. Figs make a much better showing. While they contain in round figures sixty percent of saccharin elements, they are also very rich in the positive organic salts, containing over ten parts, per thousand of sodium, seven per thousand of lime, four per thousand of magnesium. This explains their excellent relaxing, laxative properties. Sweet grapes rank low in proteids, but high in sugar. They contain about one percent nitrogenous elements, no fats, about sixteen percent of sugar, and rank fairly high in organic salts - about twenty parts per thousand.
The value Of the grape cure, like that of the milk cure, lies largely in the fact that it is a mild and pleasant form of protein and starch starvation. The grape sugars burn up (oxidize), and the alkaline mineral elements neutralize and eliminate the acid by-products of starch and protein digestion.

Lemon Juice the Most Efficient Antiseptic

The fruit acids, instead of being injurious to the system, are powerful solvents for morbid accumulations of an alkaline nature. In the (external) treatment of wounds and bedsores, even of a most serious nature, the use of lemon juice diluted in water gives excellent results - Use the juice of one half lemon in a cup of boiled or filtered water.

Lemon juice is a wholesome food and at the same time is the finest natural antiseptic in existence, while most of the medicinal antiseptics and germicides are powerful protoplasmic poisons which benumb and kill, not only disease germs, bacteria and parasites, but also the healthy cells and tissues of the body.

Since lemon juice is such an efficient antiseptic externally, it must have similar effects internally. This is true, not only of lemon juice, but also in a modified degree of all other acid and sub-acid fruits and vegetables.

Fruit Juices good for babies and children In the fruit juices the infant receives an abundant supply of the bone and tissue building materials.

To give lime water, iron, sodium and other minerals in the inorganic mineral form, when the luscious fruits contain all these elements in the live, organic, vitamin combinations is, to say the least, very short sighted.

The acid fruits also contain considerable amounts of fruit sugars - the finest forms of organic sugar in nature.

Fruits

The most delicious and wholesome raw foods are the juicy fruits. While they run low in starches, fats and proteids, they contain large amounts of the positive organic mineral salts (vitamins). They are, therefore, nature's own medicines, splendid tonics, natural stimulants, cholagogues, purifiers, antiseptics, anthelmintics and febrifuges. Acid fruit juices diluted in water are very effective in the treatment of inflammatory, febrile diseases.

The finest medicinal fruits are the acid and sub-acid varieties, such as lemons, oranges, limes, grapefruit, pineapples, tangerines, apricots, apples, green gages and other plums, and certain sub-acid varieties of cherries, pears, peaches, nectarines, and similar fruits. While these fruits contain highly organized acids, such as malic, oxalic and citric acid, they are very rich in the positive, alkaline mineral elements, and have, therefore, an acid binding and acid eliminating effect upon the system.

Article from http://www.healthy-eating-guide.com/ch1-raw-food-diet.php

We begin with a recommendation of uncooked food. Much can and should be said in favour of raw or uncooked food. Less boiling, roasting and fermenting, and more of raw food would undoubtedly do away with a great deal of weakness and disease.
Nature did not create man with a cooker by his side. Man existed on this planet for ages before he knew how to start a fire, and in those days of unfired food he was, undoubtedly, like all the rest of God's creatures who live in the freedom of nature, healthier and stronger physically than the present day diseased and degenerate product of artificial living and hypercivilization.

The constant use of cooked, highly spiced and fermented food takes away the relish of natural raw food. It deprives man of the natural instinct and intuition for the right selection and combination of foods. The majority of people in the West, reared from infancy on the most unwholesome and haphazard food combinations, have lost the capacity for tasting and enjoying the delicate natural flavors of fruits, nuts and vegetables. Mankind, for ages, has lived almost entirely on cooked and highly seasoned foods and stimulants. This has atrophied the taste buds in the tongue and palate. Natural sensitiveness for the finest flavors of fruits, nuts, vegetables and other uncooked foods can be restored only by using the latter much more liberally in the daily dietary.

Sense of VisionIt's been my experience that my sense of vision has increased literally and figuratively since going raw

Sense of VisionIt's been my experience that my sense of vision has increased literally and figuratively since going raw. Before raw I didn't envisage anything of any consequence regarding my health, or my relationship with food. To be honest, I didn't even know there was anything to be thought on the subject you just eat and get on with life, don't you? So I thought. I didn't see it as a way of connecting myself more fully to the world I live in, to the earth, sea or sky, or to others around me. I didn't know that what I ate and didn't could clear my mind as well as my body, or allow me to feel things in a different, more intense and intuitive way then ever before. I didn't know that my mind would open itself to a whole variety of thoughts, insights and subjects previously outside my range of perception I thought I already had a complete and whole perspective on life! Goodness, so much has changed!

Over the past few years I have watched in awe as my life and my body has metamorphosised. I have seen the same for many many others too, those who have also chosen this lifestyle. For a large percentage, I'm sure, the changes which have ensued have usually been precipitated by a vision of some kind a vision of a fitter, healthier body, of clearer skin, brighter eyes and shinier hair, or, as often happen, visions of living a different lifestyle somewhere else, with a different routine or different climate.

When you first came across the concept of raw eating, do you remember what thoughts first crossed your mind or how you felt?

When you first came across the concept of raw eating, do you remember what thoughts first crossed your mind or how you felt?

Did you try to imagine how you would look or feel if you began it yourself?
Or did your body and mind become all-consumed by your excitement as your mind filled with visions of an internal and external paradise?
A life lived with excitement and enthusiasm and the energy to pull it all off?
Or, perhaps, after months or years of ill health, you simply imagined getting well again, of feeling life pulse through your veins once more?
Or maybe your first vision wasn't so positive and you simply didn't know what to expect, or your imagination ran away with you and created a rather more negative scenario based on fear of the unknown?

Whatever it was for you, I'm willing to bet that, for most if not all of you, the visions you've had since then have been loftier, wider and deeper than you previously thought possible.

Malnourishment: Most people are malnourished

15) Malnourishment: Most people are malnourished. The first sign of malnourishment, in advanced countries, is being overweight. There can be many reasons for this. Quality of food is to low. Food is cooked. Some part of the persons metabolism (ability to digest food and uptake nutrients) is reduced or interrupted.

Solution: Eat nutrient dense, satisfying foods. Increased (high quality) salt and fat is the best first step.

16) Eating To Much Soy: Soy is one of the most extreme accelerated aging substances on the planet, as cooked soy contains estrogen (hormone like) substances which instruct the body to "speed up", age faster. Products like lechithin, tofu, tempe and soy milk are the worst. Miso and whole Edaname beans are okay, in moderation.

Solution: Replace your lecithin with Bee Pollen. One tablespoon of Bee Pollen has the equivalent of 20-30 egg yolks worth of lecithin and a bag of citrus worth of rutin. Replace your soy milk with fresh nut milk.

Recipe is here: Asthma , Arthritis & Cancer, Three Faces Of The Same Dis-Ease Replace your tofu and tempe with activated nuts.

17) Eating To Many Unactivated Nuts/Seeds: Most people new to the Raw Food Diet naturally gravitate to Raw Nuts as they phase out flesh, foul, fish, dairy, grains, rice and beans. Raw Nuts are in a natural state and they are in stasis. Puta dry nut on the window sill and nothing happens. Soak it overnight and you'll start getting a sprout. Raw Nuts are coated with chemicals to encourage bugs to move on to more tasty meals. Their are also enzyme and protein inhibitors which allow the nuts to remain viable (able to sprout) for long periods. Consistently eating Raw Nuts floods the digestive tract with these substances, which can interfere or completely shutdown digestion.

Solution: Germinate (soak) your nuts before eating them. Activate your nuts and seeds for a dry, salty taste: Activated Nut Recipe

To Many Cold/Wet Foods:

13) To Many Cold/Wet Foods: Eating primarily salads and high water content fruit (unless your in the tropics) tends to water log the spleen and shutdown immune function. Symptoms usually involve sinus inflammation and respiratory(oxygen uptake) interference. You can read more about this: My Personal Health Story & 100% Raw In 2 Days100% Raw In 2 Days

Solution: Keep up your intake of heating and drying foods. Spicy foods - arugala, peppers, onion, garlic, ginger. Dehydrated foods like Golden Flax Crackers and Activate Pistachios. Activated Nut Recipe

14) Eating To Little Fat: Fat is essential to life. EFAs, Essential Fatty Acids, are the Marjory building block for cell walls. People on low fat diets tend to become dehydrated, as cells are unable to hold water. Then finally, loose brain function as the body steals fat from the brain and neurology to regenerate life essential tissue like heart and lungs.

Solution: Eat high quality fats like avocado, activated nuts and Chocolate Silk Smoothies. Add Hemp Seeds to salads. Add Hemp Seeds and Olive Oil to salad dressings.

Eating To Much:

10) Eating To Much: This happens for most people at every meal. Eating and weight balancing (gain or loss) is simple. Bodies eat for nutrients.

If low nutrient food is put in to the body, hunger persists and over eating results. Another challenge is most people eat cooked food which inhibit saliesthetic response, which is the stop eating signal.

This signal "fires" by monitoring nutrient intake levels. The challenge isaliesthetic response appears to only work off raw (uncooked),natural (unprocessed), pure (no chemicals additives).

Cooked food inhibits this signal, so people eat until their stomach backs up, which we call acid reflux.

Solution: To reduce eating and rapidly balance weight, increase your nutrient density. If you're eating out, always carry a few Kelp/Dulse capsules or Himalayan Salt to use on your food.

Better, only eat at home and eat mainly high water content, nutrient dense, Raw Super Foods. When eating any cooked food, try enjoying a few Digest and Salivarius with your meal and notice the difference. This will also get rid of any after lunch energy slump.

11) Eating To Complex: Most meals are complicated. ASAD (Standard American Diet) meal of meat, potatoes, salt, soft drink and dessert can take 40-50 hours to transit the entire digestive tract and be eliminated.

Solution: Eat simple and eat combinations which digest rapidly. Separate proteins and carbs. Eat melonsalone. Master food combining.

12) Eating To Little Salt: Eating to little salt can be deadly. It's amazing to watch chronically ill peoplereturn to great health in a few days on a high salt diet. Salt allows water to be held in the body. Adequate saltis required to allow hydration (body to hold water).

People have massive health increases when they go on high salt diets, because low salt diets results in massive dehydration.

Solution: Eat only pure salt. Our preference is Himalayan Salt. You can read about why we avoid gray salt like the plague here: What's the Gray in Gray Salt Anyway?
